Just got off a call with Dave Longstreth (
), a recorded conversation for this substack live video feature. You can watch it. We scratch the surface barely, talking about his new incredible work Song Of The Earth (where I sing/speak a little section on Twin Aspens), about art vs. real life, about live vs. album, about Bugs Bunny, about Noh, shō, gagaku, about the background sound in a ‘tube about Cage not liking Branca, etc. etc. It was such a joy and so short for how much more we could’ve explored. Now, off the call eating lunch, I’m thinking about the inspiring place Dave left the conversation, the observation that the post human alien archaeologists will probably observe that these extinct humans (us) worshipped energy, power, gas, electricity, etc., and build a whole world around how we harness it and build even further, bigger, to our demise. And how the spiritual part of that, the sacred angelic choir heard within a buzzing guitar amp not playing any notes, is a window into eternity. This is exactly the type of inspiring moment that opens into a new album, new recording, new whole angle, that will take the next few years of my life to feel towards. Better get started, ok bye!
