Hi everybody! It’s been a bit since the last newsletter. Thanks for still being here.
I was on a big trip bouncing back and forth in Europe. Some Mount Eerie concerts happened, some “poetry residency” time happened, some just nothing life time happened, just swimming and eating and walking around. Here are some photos:
(Note: That’s Ragnar Kjartansson’s No Tomorrow that we saw at the Louisiana Museum in Denmark. Wow, holy moly. I loved it.)
I also had some cool shirt brothers experiences:
Now we are home, happily. The world is insane and I need to retreat to my quietness to refortify after not very long of being out in it.
what’s next?
There’s a show in Seattle really soon: Mount Eerie, Lori Goldston, Careen, at this reclaimed old theater in downtown Seattle.
Friday, July 21st, 2023 - Seattle, Wash. - the Coliseum Theater (with Lori Goldston and Careen, as part of XO's Art Party series)
That’s soon. I hope you can come.
Then in September/October I’m going to New Zealand and Australia with my friends Black Belt Eagle Scout. The plan is to combine energies and play loudly, rock style. The music band part is still getting figured out, but the shows are booked and the tickets are on sale!
Friday, Sept. 29th, 2023 - Dunedin, New Zealand - Dive (with Black Belt Eagle Scout)
Saturday, Sept. 30th, 2023 - Wellington, New Zealand - Meow (with Black Belt Eagle Scout)
Sunday, Oct. 1st, 2023 - Auckland, New Zealand - Whammy Bar (with Black Belt Eagle Scout)
Thursday, Oct. 5th, 2023 - Sydney, Australia - Volume Festival at Art Gallery of NSW (with Black Belt Eagle Scout)
Friday, Oct. 6th, 2023 - Castlemaine, Australia - Theatre Royal (with Black Belt Eagle Scout)
Saturday, Oct. 7th, 2023 - Melbourne, Australia - Max Watts (with Hana Stretton)
(plus a Brisbane show, tba)
other things:
While in Europe I recorded a couple little radio things. In Belgium I played a few new songs on the national radio station VRT with the legendary Ayco Duyster. You can listen to it here.
… then in London I met up with Will René in the park and recorded some scrappy poetry speaking for his excellent show Plastic Language. Listen here.
personal recommendation:
I’m really really into this album called soon by Hana Stretton who is playing the show in Melbourne on Oct. 7th. I don’t know what the deal is, who she is, where the ideas came from, how it came to be, or anything. I love it. It feels like it comes into my world on a night wind and has belonged there since forever, unexpected. Whatever ingredients went into making this record, I hope Hana can keep access to them for a long time.
and for the paying subscribers, a treat:
It’s an unreleased recording.
