Hi again so soon. I thought I’d get off here and stop throwing jpegs and links of Night Palace at you after two months of relentless prodding, but I guess I wasn’t totally done. There are a couple time-relevant internet based things coming up I thought I should do my part to announce.
Tomorrow, Tues. Nov. 5th, 2024. That date sounds familiar but I’m pretty sure there’s nothing going on, media-wise, so at 9:30am PST (12:30 EST) I’m talking with Anthony Fantano of The Needle Drop, a self proclaimed “nerd”, on a website that I think is for fellow nerds to watch each other play video games???? “Twitch”. You can join that here.
Then on Fri. Nov. 8th, 2024 at 11am PST I’m doing an A.M.A. (“ask me anything and I will try to answer but I might get weird”). It’s in the r/indieheads dungeon. Join in if you dare. The link is here.
It seems like the release of Night Palace last Friday has gone well. Old friends are texting and saying they heard it. It feels good to peek at the reviews, though I for sure have giant mixed feelings about if I should read them or not. It’s 100% a mindfuck. But also it’s people closely listening and writing with depth (ideally) about this thing that is actually at the deep beloved center of my whole existence. So sure, yeah, I’ll peek and share it. Here are some recents:
Pitchfork said “Best New Music”(tm)
Hearing Things said “more to say than usual”
NPR said “strange”
Paste said “melodies occasionally emerge”
Brooklyn Vegan said “screamo”
Flood said “It’s become hard to think about his songwriting without associating it with a sense of our utter insignificance within the context of all of human history.”
ha ha, good one.
And there’s also:
A.V. Club, Aquarium Drunkard, Cult Following, Deep Voices, Le Devoir, Exclaim!, FADER, Far Out, Kreative Kontrol, Le Canal Auditif, Line of Best Fit, Magic RPM, Mindies, Música Instantânea, OOR, Shepherd Express, Slant, the Skinny, Spill, Stereogum, Treble, UNCUT, Uproxx’s Indiecast, and probably some more, and more stuff I know that will be coming out eventually, like that weird fashion shoot I am already grinding my teeth at night about…
Seriously thanks everyone for the attention and good feedback.
I can’t not mention that you should try to come see us play. I’m “us” now. There’s a band for these upcoming Mount Eerie shows. This Sunday:
Sun. Nov. 10th, 2024 - Eastsound, Wash. - Freezing Moon pt. 2 at Houlme, 5pm, free, outside, cold (with Ragana and Saltwater)
and then in a couple weeks! Tickets still going, and really banging openers added:
Tues. Nov. 19th, 2024 - Brooklyn, NY - Warsaw (with River L. Ramirez and Dear Nora)
Thurs. Nov. 21st, 2024 - Los Angeles, Cal. - the Bellwether (with Agriculture and Deradoorian)
That should do it for today. Talk to you later.
Phil
Would love to see you and the band play, you should do an EU tour when you can!
