It’s the middle of November, 2022. Today we received a huge delivery, the largest single pressing of records I’ve ever made. Eleven pallets in two trucks arrived at The Business in Anacortes where Nick and Evie save my life by packing and shipping orders that come in via my website and also send boxes to heroic other record stores around the world. Their little storefront in the way north old end of Anacortes houses a pretty crazy amount of subcultural art activity, satteliting out all over the planet. It’s a hidden hub.
The things that fill these boxes, now spread to different temporary storage spots around town, are just many many copies of a record I made 21 years ago, the Glow pt. 2 by the Microphones. The vinyl has been out of print for a little while, a year maybe, but in the last two decades it’s been pretty constantly in print, going in and out of different versions, a couple reissues, some artwork repolishing, a new label. It was originally released on Sept. 11th, 2001 (I know) by K in Olympia where it was recorded at their in-house studio, Dub Narcotic. It was my third album on K, after Don’t Wake Me Up and It Was Hot, We Stayed In The Water. It was longer than the previous two and we had to expand it to 2 LPs for the vinyl release. I was surprised and grateful that K would splurge on the extra cost, I was small potatoes. When it came out I’d been singing the songs already for a few months as I worked on them. That fall I was already deep in mind work on the next thing.
