Phil! I thought the exact same thing about Barbie! Especially because at the end when Barbie is being dropped off at the gynecologist, America Ferrera is dropping her off and the husband is played by America’s actual husband. A lot like how the woman that answers the door to Laura’s house in Twin Peaks is the real-life owner of the house. I wasn’t sure anybody else would get that, so I’m glad you did!! 😎👌🏼

The Barbie/ Twin Peaks connection is interesting. While I didn't connect Barbie to it while watching it, I definitely thought a lot about toxic and traumatic patriarchal forces against women while watching The Return. It seemed that Lynch was over and over again making us witness women whose reality is mind-numbingly horrific.

A connection here to the feminine/motherly earth and the fires raging and hurricanes swirling as we continue to drill and grow like cancer.

What if the earth herself were to go through a Pinocchio/ Barbie like transition to become an agent in our oft-nightmarish world? What and who would she be?

Joanna Macy? A Shambhala Warrior?

I also thought about Twin Peaks while watching Barbie, but in so much more of a passing - "there's a lot of Coops in this movie" - and then forgetting it. I like all of the thoughtful connections you made and want to re-watch the Return now!

I just got back from a bioluminescence night kayaking tour near Port Townsend. Phil- I’m sure you have a bunch of cool places closer to you but mystery bay was crazy bioluminescent and warm enough to swim in.

Everybody- in the summer the ocean in the PNW has little plankton that make the water glow blue/white when you touch it and you can kayak around in it. If you go in early August you could probably time it to where you can catch the perseid meteor shower AND glowing water at the same time. It's dangerous though, so go with a guide or tour, not by yourself like Phil did in his most recent brush with death. (Glad you're OK, Phil.)

Also, Phil, if you could do a localish show of loud Mount Eerie at some point, I would be VERY excited for that.

AUCTION UPDATE:

I just sent $688.50 to the Potlatch Fund. Thanks to PreAtomic Records in Corvallis, OR for buying both shirts and bidding so generously! Crazy nuts for a couple of shredded old beloved shirts to generate that much but I'm so happy to be able to send a big chunk of money to such an excellent cause. Thanks everyone.
