But standing here among the people of Punxsutawney and basking in the warmth of their hearths and hearts, I couldn't imagine a better fate than a long and lustrous winter. This is Phil Connors.
Just read an entire article on Phil Connors then I open this post and see him mentioned in the first sentence that’s some uncanny stuff.
I love what you said about the great trilogy of releases and I think it’s awesome that the night palace poster is comically large that album has been the soundtrack of my 2025 so far
thanks phil. i am currently trying to separate myself (with crowbar) from those hard drug laden playgrounds. A bunch of people are fleeing twitter for bluesky which is like .1% better as a platform still owned by venture capital. I am however learning to use Mastodon and finding it to be a potentially good alternative space for digital community.
Also ive had that hilarious clip of you hustling across the room to record takes burned into my memory for i guess 10 years now. thanks for the reminder.
Thanks, Phil. I am also mostly flummoxed most of the time, but I appreciate your "little band’s little shows and the little doodads" that you make. So we proceed together, nohow on.
Love Sauna, love this little newsletter, thanks Phil! Hoping to shake the chains of Instagram this year as well. I feel like those sites don’t even function well as a place to share work anymore, which was what made them useful. Oh well, onward and (hopefully) upward! ❤️
Phil, I would eagerly read what you had to say about senses of entitlement, and corporatism in not just art, but seemingly every aspect of existence. I’d especially like to read about your vision for what you’d like the world to be like.
I’d like to hear how you’d respond to someone who might say: land acknowledgements are just pointless posturing, for example. Personally I think I’m too cynical at this point to have much hope for change. I look forward to your newsletter to hear your unique views, which really do resonate with me - with all of your readers, I’m sure. But I don’t know how scalable those dreams are in this country. I definitely understand the urge to just withdraw….
There's a handful of films I might recommend when Dersu is mentioned but perhaps a simple fourteen minute thing is as good a place to start as any, methinks you'll appreciate this. https://vimeo.com/248249215
I love Sauna and that little documentary so much.
I think about the documentary recording of turmoil weekly
Looking forward to reading your thoughts on streaming services and etc ! Much love from Bellingham
Thank you for making those newsletters.
They really brighten my days!

Thank you, as always, for sharing Phil. You are not alone with those blob-shapped feelings.

Can you play some Winds Poem when you come to Santa Fe?
I would love you forever!
Thank you 🤍❤️🔥🖤
I went to your show at the Neptune last night... simply stunning! Beautiful from Ragana's start to the cathartic closing song. Thank you!
